Saturday’s game represents a homecoming for Mark Schmidt, who coached at Robert Morris from 2001-07.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies defeated the George Washington Colonials 72-47, improving their record to 15-8 overall and 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play
The Bonnies scored 37 points in each half in a 74-65 victory on SBU’s Alumni Weekend that improved their record to 14-8, 6-3 at the halfway point of conference play. They are now on a two-game win streak.
The Bonnies committed 16 turnovers and the Rams scored 21 points off those miscues, a major reason Bonaventure found itself in overtime for the first time this season. SBU was stout in the extra period, holding Fordham to two points and securing a 62-55 victory.
Vasquez and his teammates were among the millions of people grieving the tragic loss of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other victims in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. on Sunday.
Bona couldn’t recover from that run, falling 81-75 in front of a capacity crowd of 5,480 observers. The Bonnies are now 12-8, 4-3 in the Atlantic 10.
Osunniyi did not participate in practice on Tuesday and did not travel with the Bonnies to Dayton for Wednesday’s game. Osunniyi suffered a concussion during last Wednesday’s win over UMass, with no set timetable for his return.
Dayton (17-2, 6-0) still hasn’t lost in regulation this season; still hasn’t lost in Atlantic 10 play; still hasn’t been on the short end of the scoreboard since Dec. 21.
More than halfway through the regular season, the Dayton Flyers still haven’t lost a game in regulation. They have ascended to No. 7 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, making them the A-10’s highest-ranked program since Xavier held the seventh spot for a week in December 2008. Obi Toppin is a projected lottery pick.
