St. Bonaventure guard Dominick Welch, like classmate Jaren Holmes, has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Welch previously announced on April 15 that he was entering his name into the NBA Draft while maintaining his last year of collegiate eligibility. The 6-foot-5 senior concluded a National Invitation Tournament run he played every possible minute in with a 25-point performance, including seven 3-pointers, at Madison Square Garden against Xavier.
The Buffalo native, who graduated from Cheektowaga High School as the all-time leading scorer in Western New York history, tallied 1,198 points at Bona and averaged a career-high 12.3 points per game his senior season. If he does not return to Bona, he will finish ninth in school history in 3-point percentage (37.4 percent). He is also one of 26 Bonnies in the 1,000-point, 500-rebound club.
Welch earned a spot on the NIT All-Tournament team and was the A-10 Co-Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 21. The George Mason Patriots, in particular, will not be sad to see him leave the conference; he averaged 15.2 points and made 21 total 3-point shots in his last six games against Mason.
