While none of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball seniors have announced their intentions for next season, Jalen Adaway indirectly made his decision to go pro official by participating in last Thursday’s College Slam Dunk Championship.

Once athletes compete in all-star contests that include cash prizes, NCAA rules state, they waive their amateur status and are ineligible to return to intercollegiate athletic competition. The dunk contest, won by Houston’s Taze Moore, featured a $5,000 prize.

Adaway posted on social media yesterday that he will soon make an announcement, presumably to declare his professional basketball intentions. He played two years at Bona after transferring from Miami-Ohio, tallying 746 points at SBU and earning first team all-conference honors this season. He would have been eligible for a fifth year under the NCAA’s COVID-19 response guidelines, which granted athletes another season due to the non-traditional 2020-21 academic years.
