Jalen Adaway is the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program’s 14th different Atlantic 10 First Team honoree, while Osun Osunniyi is the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The league announced its postseason awards Tuesday afternoon.
Osunniyi, also the first Bonnie to make four A-10 All-Defensive Teams, landed on the all-conference second team. Fellow seniors Kyle Lofton and Jaren Holmes garnered A-10 Third Team and All-Academic honors, respectively.
Adaway leads the Bonnies in scoring, averaging 16 points per game, and is second in rebounding. He tallied double-digit points in each conference game and posted three double-doubles in non-conference play. A Bona player has now been voted to the postseason first team seven consecutive seasons.
Osunniyi led the league with 79 blocks this season and ranked sixth in rebounding with 7.5 boards a contest. He averaged 12.1 points on 58.8 percent shooting during the league slate, with five double-doubles against A-10 opponents.
Lofton and Osunniyi are the sixth and seventh players in Bonaventure history to receive All-Conference First, Second or Third Team honors in three straight years, according to program sports information director Scott Eddy. Lofton averaged 13 points and 5.8 assists along with a career-high 2.2 steals an outing and ranked third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Holmes, a sports media major, holds a 3.66 cumulative Grade Point Average while being SBU’s second-leading scorer and assist-getter. The Bonnies are 11-2 when Holmes tallies at least 15 points and 7-1 when he grabs six or more rebounds.
Davidson swept the A-10’s Player and Coach of the Year awards, as Luka Brajkovic became the Wildcat program’s fourth Player of the Year in eight years and Bob McKillop earned his second Coach of the Year in the same span.
