Boston College has hired its new men’s basketball coach, and it’s not St. Bonaventure bench boss Mark Schmidt.
The Eagles, making their second hire in seven seasons, chose College of Charleston head coach Earl Grant. Grant, 44, compiled a 127-88 record at Charleston, leading the Cougars to the 2017 NIT and 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Schmidt, a BC alum who played for the team from 1981 to 1985, was rumored to be a candidate to rebuild his alma mater. Former Eagles coach Jim Christian went 78-132 in seven seasons from 2014-15 to his firing on Feb. 15.
