After a successful 2018-19 campaign that ended in the sectional final, York is determined to go back to the Blue Cross War Memorial Arena for another crack at the block. The Knights are heating up at the right time, tallying four victories last week to extend their winning streak to eight. On Monday night, Ed Orman’s squad went on the road and handed Red Jacket its first loss of the season, 69-66. Senior forward Riley Stella led with a game-high 26 points. The Knights then defended home court in back-to-back contests against Keshequa (68-44) and Canisteo-Greenwood (59-45).
Orman’s squad capped off their week with a 77-56 road win at defending Class D1 sectional champion, Mount Morris. Stella was the Knights’ leading scorer with a combined 80 points spread across the four games (20 points per game). The senior forward is averaging 19.6 points, 8.3 boards and 2.0 assists this season. Junior forward James Kennedy is second on the squad with 10.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists as well. The guard duo of David Cuozzo and Josh Davis average nine points apiece while senior Timmy LaGeorge rounds out the Knights’ leading scorers with 8.3. Overall, York is producing 68.9 points per game and has a 13-3 record, including 5-1 in league play.
York has four regular season games remaining. Two of them are this week and both will be at home: Wednesday against Caledonia-Mumford at 7 p.m. and Friday versus Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
