He has a 40-inch vertical, 7-foot-1 wingspan and friendship with countryman Joryam Saizonou. Now Anouar Mellouk has a college choice.
Mellouk, a 6-foot-8 forward from Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy by way of Amsterdam, has signed a grand-in-aid to join the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team, Bona announced Thursday. Mellouk will have four years of eligibility.
“We’re excited about the potential that Anouar has and his ability to grow in our program,” Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt said in a press release. “He has a ton of God-given athletic ability that you just can’t teach. He can excel in an up-tempo style of play and can step out and knock down mid-range jumpers and stretch the floor. He can also create trouble for opponents on the defensive end with his long arms and shot-blocking skills. We’re looking forward to working with him and maximizing his abilities.”
Mellouk averaged 15.4 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and over a steal per game playing for Fork Union’s postgraduate team last season. He and Saizonou trained together with All Day Athletes and competed in the same prep circuit, with Saizonou at Beckley Prep in West Virginia.
Bona has now filled 12 of its 13 scholarships for the 2020-21 season.
