Section V Semifinal Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class AA

Section V Class AA heads to the Blue Cross Arena for its final four. The top seed was eliminated, but the next three remain. Here is the breakdown:

No. 4 FAIRPORT (15-6/Monroe County I) vs. No. 8 UPREP (10-10/Private/Parochial I) 6 PM, Tuesday, Blue Cross Arena

Scoring offense: Fairport (63.9 PPG), UPrep (67.3 PPG)

Scoring defense: Fairport (61.8 PPG), UPrep (67.2 PPG)

Current streak: Fairport has won three of four, UPrep has won four straight

How they got here: Ryan Lucey and Andre Starks took to the air, combining for seven three-pointers as Fairport held off No. 12 Edison Tech, 53-47, in the quarterfinals.

UPrep opened with a 98-96 double overtime win over No. 9 Bishop Kearney before outlasting No. 1 Hilton, 67-64, in a game in which Jakhi Lucas scored 30 points.

Last time they met: Vanzell Johnson led with 17 points as Fairport defeated UPrep, 56-51.

How they got here: Adam Williams scored 18 of his 27 points in the first half as Gates-Chili took down No. 7 Webster Schroeder, 64-62, in the quarterfinals.

McQuaid opened with an 87-56 win over No. 11 Victor.

The winners will meet in the Class AA finals on Saturday, March 2, at the Blue Cross Arena.
