St. Bonaventure men’s basketball senior Courtney Stockard expects to miss the start of the 2018-19 season as he continues to recover from arthroscopic knee surgery.

Stockard, who missed two full seasons with foot injuries and was sidelined three games last season due to various ailments, said at Wednesday’s media availability that he has yet to participate in contact drills. He anticipates a clearance for full contact in the next few weeks.

“The recovery is coming along pretty well,” the St. Louis native said. “I’m able to do a little more, doing non-contact drills… the rehab is going real good.

“I’ll probably miss the first couple but we’ll see.”

Of Bona’s returning players, Stockard had the most points, assists, steals and minutes last season. He also tied LaDarien Griffin for the rebounding lead while averaging double-figure points in his last 12 games.

Bonaventure’s first three games of the season are against Bucknell (Nov. 7), against Jackson State (Nov. 10) and at Niagara (Nov. 12). The Bonnies then have a full week off before competing in the three-day Cayman Islands Classic.
