HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hornell Dodgers finished with an impressive 21 hits that led them to a 17-2 win over the Genesee Rapids in New York Collegiate Baseball League action Sunday afternoon.
The Dodgers had no trouble getting their bats going. They had eight of their nine in their line up finish with two hits or more. Third baseman John Ricotta (Monroe CC) finished the night going 4-for-6 with two RBI. Connor Brandon (Concordia) also recorded four RBI on two hits.
Hornell came out with an offense in full force. They tacked on three runs each in the first two innings of play. The only answer the Rapids provided was in the bottom of the second inning when Jordan Wilkerson (Texas Tech) hit an RBI ground rule double. Wilkerson made his way to home plate after a wild pitch to make the score 6-2.
The Dodgers quickly brought men around in the top of the third by plating five and increasing their lead to 11-2.
Hornell finished scoring two runs in the fifth, two in the seventh, and two in the ninth to achieve the final score, 17-2.
Mark McKenna (Canisius) was the lone Rapid to register a multiple hit effort with a 3-for-4 effort.
Adrian Lopez (Oklahoma-Panhandle) gets the win for the evening after six innings on the mound only allowing two runs on four hits and four strikeouts.
The Rapids will face off with the Wellsville Nitros tomorrow night at 5:00 PM.
Hornell will take on the Rochester Ridgemen at home Monday night at 7:00 PM.
