This Morning in Red Wings History: Bacon, eggs and a Liriano victory

August 9, 2020 by Chuckie Maggio Leave a Comment

By CHUCKIE MAGGIO The Rochester Red Wings and Ottawa Lynx were less than enthused at the prospect of playing baseball at 9:35 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2005. "I don't like games played before 12:05," interim manager Rich Miller told the Democrat and Chronicle. "We just have to do it and get through it," said Lynx outfielder Bobby Darula, who played a 9:35 game at Frontier Field for … [Read more...] about This Morning in Red Wings History: Bacon, eggs and a Liriano victory

This Day in Red Wings History: Keegan and Easter continue Wings domination of Miami

August 8, 2020 by Chuckie Maggio Leave a Comment

By CHUCKIE MAGGIO A 38-year-old pitcher, in any setting, is an unorthodox sight on a baseball roster in 2020. When you consider Luke Easter was exactly five years older than starting pitcher Bob Keegan, however, the Rochester Red Wings hardly seemed to notice. By CHUCKIE MAGGIO To say the Rochester Red Wings were peaking at the right time in the dog days of summer 1976 would be a massive understatement. The Richmond Braves were the latest victims of the bulldozing Red Wings club on August 2 of that year, failing to score a run in Rochester's doubleheader sweep. Randy Stein and Scott McGregor each went the distance, combining to … [Read more...] about This Day in Red Wings History: Double the shutouts for sweeping Wings

This Day in Red Wings History: Dodson knocks a pair of homers, Wings score rare ’90s win at Pawtucket

August 1, 2020 by Chuckie Maggio Leave a Comment

By CHUCKIE MAGGIO Bo Dodson's lone season with the Rochester Red Wings featured eight home runs and two triples, neither number relatively high in the team's lineup. Fans who happened through the McCoy Stadium turnstiles on August 1, 1998 may have mistaken Dodson for Mark McGwire. Dodson recorded two of those home runs and a triple that day, powering Rochester to an 8-1 rout of … [Read more...] about This Day in Red Wings History: Dodson knocks a pair of homers, Wings score rare ’90s win at Pawtucket
