ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the fourth time in as many years, Bishop Kearney and Haverling squared off in the Section V Class B2 Boys’ playoffs. The previous three meetings went to Haverling.
On Saturday afternoon, Kearney turned the tables.
Joey Triassi scored twice while Jaiden Insixiengmay and Christian Maniscalco added a tally apiece as top-seeded Kearney advanced to the 2022 Class B2 semifinals with a 4-nil win over four-time reigning champ, Haverling.

“When I saw that bracket come out, I was like ‘geez we got to play them again,’” Kearney head coach Steve Strauss said. “At the same time, our guys were looking forward to the chance to compete against them. That’s four years in a row we’ve seen each other in sectionals. We knew it would be a good game. We definitely got a good challenge in today.”
Triassi wasted little time giving Kearney the lead in the opening moments of the contest.
“I think I celebrated more for that goal than I have for a lot of goals this year,” Strauss stated. “The coaching staff was talking about it. This game was kinda go with who scored first. I really hoped we score early and set the tone. Thank God, we did.”

The play started in the middle third with Triassi taking possession.
“He was able to turn the corner, beat a defender and go one-on-one with the goalie. It was a nice little finish right in the front of the frame.”
Luke Tytler won a ball along the left flank and found Insixiengmay at the far post with a cross and a 2-0 BK advantage. Maniscalco converted on a corner kick just before the end of the first half. The junior defender finished during a scramble for the ball inside the six-yard box.
“We knew it was going to take more than one to win today. Getting the second and third one right before the half that was huge for momentum and for our mental stability in the second half.”

Haverling beat Kearney in the 2019 and 2020 championship games.
A year ago, Haverling edged BK 2-1 in the semifinals took an undefeated record into the state finals before falling. The Rams graduated several from that squad and came into Saturday’s game with the No. 9 seed with a 5-11-0 record. Strauss knew better than to overlook the Livingston County AA squad for granted.
“They’re dangerous,” Strauss said. “(Current players) Ezra Hoad, Zach Musso, those guys can score on anybody at any given time.”
Kearney (14-1-1) will face the Wayland-Cohocton – Le Roy winner in the semifinals.
