Top 25 Wrap: Cone comes off bench to lead Virginia Tech; Kispert paces Gonzaga

Corey Kispert led five in double figures as Gonzaga took a 43-30 lead into halftime and cruised to its fourth double-digit win of the season. Kispert connected on 10-of-13 shots from the floor including 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc. Drew Timme added 12 points and game-high eight rebounds as part of a Gonzaga effort which saw the Bulldogs grab 46 rebounds to 22 for their counterparts.

Anton Watson contributed 15 points while Jalen Suggs had 12 and Dominick Harris 10.

Carvell Teasett led Northwestern State with 16 points.

NO. 2 BAYLOR (6-0) 99
L.J. Cryer scored 15 points off the bench and Baylor shot better than 50 percent from the floor as a team for its sixth double-digit win of the season. Cryer connected on 4-of-6 attempts from behind the 3-point arc.

Jared Butler added 14 points, and Macio Teague had 13. Matthew Mayer scored 12 points and Jonathan Tchamwa-Tchatchoua 10. Butler handed out a game-high seven assists, and the Bears collected 25 dimes on 37 made field goals.

SAINT JOSEPH’S (0-5) 66
NO. 8 TENNESSEE (5-0) 102
Tennessee connected on three 3-pointers in a 16-0 first-half run on its way to a 56-33 halftime lead. Victor Bailey Jr., Jaden Springer and Santiago Vescovi each connected from long range as the Volunteers grabbed a double-digit lead and did not allow Saint Joseph’s any closer. Bailey finished with a game-high 18 points while Vescovi had 16, and Springer 10 off the bench.

Yves Pons had 13 points for the Vols, and Keon Johnson 12. Tennessee handed out 23 assists on 31 made goals.

Rayquan Evans highlighted a late 18-6 run with a pair of 3-pointers, and Florida State bounced back from its only loss of the season. Leading 54-53 with less than seven minutes remaining in the game, FSU’s Anthony Polite converted two of four free throws and followed with dunk before Evans hit his first triple.

Balsa Koprivica hit and jumper and a pair of free throws for a 65-57 Seminoles’ lead. Evans made it a nine-point game, and Scottie Barnes pushed the lead to double digits at 70-59 with a jumper.

Polite led FSU with 15 points. Koprivica had 14.  Gray and Koprivica collected eight rebounds apiece to lead the Seminoles to a 53-30 advantage on the boards.

Gardner-Webb’s Lance Terry led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting.

LONGWOOD (1-7) 58
NO. 24 VIRGINIA TECH (7-1) 84
Jalen Cone came off the bench and scored 18 points to lead Virginia Tech to its third straight win. Cone connected six times from behind the 3-point arc. The sophomore guard’s first triple of the game gave Virginia Tech a lead it never surrendered at 11-8 with 15:25 to go in the first half.

Keve Aluma added 14 points for the Hokies, and Joe Bamisile had 11. Tyrece Radford handed out a game-high eight assists.
