Boo Buie’s 3-pointer with 15:56 remaining in the first half gave Northwestern a 7-4 lead, and the Wildcats did not trail again for the remainder of the contest. Buie poured in a game-high 30 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor including 5-of-6 from long range. The sophomore converted 5-of-6 free throws. Teammate Pete Nance added 15 points and 12 rebounds while Ty Berry scored 12 points off the bench.
As a team, Northwestern shot 27-of-51 (52.9 percent) from the floor including 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) from long range. The Wildcats led 43-28 at halftime and scored on 35 of 64 possessions for the game.
Northwestern’s defense limited Michigan State to 26-of-67 (38.8 percent) shooting from the floor.
Aaron Henry led MSU with 11 points.
The game was the Big 10 opener for both teams.

Justin Gorham corralled 16 rebounds including 11 on the offensive end to pace a Houston effort which saw the Cougars convert 21 offensive rebounds into a 23-8 advantage in second-chance points. Quentin Grimes led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Teammate Reggie Chaney added 18 points, and Jamal Shead had 10. The win was Houston’s fifth double-digit victory of the season.

All five starters scored in double figures, and Creighton won for the third time in four games. Christian Bishop paced the Blue Jays with 19 points including a layup in overtime. Mitch Ballock added 13 points. Marcus Zegarowski had 11 while Damien Jefferson and Denzel Mahoney scored 10 apiece.
UConn’s James Bouknight led all scorers with 40 points on 13-of-24 shooting including 5-of-12 behind the 3-point arc. The Huskies erased a 12-point first-half deficit to eventually force overtime. The game marked the return to the Big East of UConn which had spent the past seven seasons in the American Athletic Conference.
The game contained eight ties and 15 lead changes.

NO. 11 TEXAS (7-1) 77
Greg Brown scored eight of team-high 24 points during a decisive 17-o second-half run, and Texas won its third straight. Trailing 42-38 with 14:45 remaining on the game clock, Matt Coleman III connected from behind the 3-point arc. Brown hit back-to-back triples and followed with a pair of layups, and the Longhorns had a lead they did not surrender. Brown hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds. Teammate Andrew Jones added 22 points. Coleman scored 15.
Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham finished with a game-high 25 points.

Rutgers built a double-digit second-half advantage and then held on to win for the second time in as many tries during Big Ten action. Ron Harper Jr. led all scorers with 28 points while teammate Jacob Young added 24. Young converted 7-of-8 free throws attempt part of an overall Rutgers effort to hit 25 of 36 from the stripe and outscore Illinois by 14 from the line.
