Aquinas sophomore Jack Bleier averaged double figures for a Li’l Irish squad which had a four-win improvement and was the No. 8 seed in Class AA. The 6-foot-2 guard was third on the team in scoring with 11.9 points in 18 games played. Bleier collected five rebounds, three assists and 1.4 steals in 27 minutes per game as well.
Bleier shot 39.9 percent from the field, including 45.6 percent from inside the arc and 35.3 percent from long range. The sophomore guard netted double-digit points 12 times, including a season-high 18 twice (January 18th in a 72-54 win over NE Douglass and February 19th in a 68-66 win over UPrep). Both of those games were part of a stretch in which Bleier ended the season scoring double figures in eight of 11 contests. The 6-foot-2 guard’s streak ignited Aquinas to a five-game win streak after a 2-4 start as well.
With the graduation of Jack Forsythe, Steve Mahar, Gabriel Miller and Jack Scanlon, Bleier will return next season with the core of Myles Blackwood, leading scorer Wesley Henderson, Jordan Jordan, Will Scanlon and Shannon Sims.
After going 7-13 and being knocked out of the Class A1 sectional quarterfinals in 2018-19, Aquinas completed this year with an 11-10 record.
