Geneva junior Devon Martin led a Panthers squad that won their sixth sectional title in program history and advanced to their first-ever regional. The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 16.3 points, 9.5 boards, 2.7 assists, two steals and 1.1 blocks per game to lead Geneva to a 20-4 record.
Martin converted 52 percent (152-of-291) of his field goals, including 54 (141-of-259) from inside the arc. The junior forward poured in 391 points across 24 games played. Martin netted double-digits in 22 contests, including nine straight to start the season and end it. The 6-foot-3 junior led the Panthers in points scored 17 times as well.
Martin’s standout performances this season included two made three-pointers on three separate occasions, three blocks on December 6th in a 68-50 win at Greece Olympia, six steals on December 12th in a 72-22 win over Bath-Haverling, six assists on February 14th in a 48-46 win over Newark, eight made free throws on two separate occasions (January 10th in a 64-45 win at Newark and January 28th in a 74-40 win over Penn Yan) and 29 points on 13-of-15 shooting in the sectional semifinals against Hornell.
In the semi-final victory, Martin made 12-of-13 (92 percent) field goals from inside the arc, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out five assists, swiped a pair of steals and swatted a shot.
Martin compiled 227 rebounds, 64 assists, 48 steals and 27 blocks. The 6-foot-3 forward will return for his senior year with guard Nasir Harrison. Last spring, Martin played AAU for WNY Crossover.
