Wednesday Wrap: Stark leads Avoca past Prattsburgh; East, Geneva, Cal-Mum all advance

CLASS A

No. 3 EASTRIDGE (19-5) 64
No. 1 EAST (22-2) 71
East used that fourth-quarter surge to pull away from Eastridge on Wednesday night and win, 71-64, in the Section V Class A regional qualifier. The win sends the Eagles to a Saturday meeting with Health Sciences in the Far West Regional, the state tournament’s quarterfinal stage. East was led by 25 points from McCullough, 22 (and 12 rebounds) from Zechariah Harris-Scott and 15 from Damani Barley. READ MORE.
East will take on Health Sciences Charter (VI) in the Far West Regional on Saturday, March 14 at 7 PM at Buffalo State.

CLASS B

No. 1 GENEVA (20-4) 84
No. 1 AVON (17-7) 56

Geneva used a drive-and-kick offense and a three-point barrage to defeat Avon, 84-56, and advance to its first regional in program history. READ MORE.
Geneva advances to face Olean (VI) in the Far West Regional on Saturday, March 14 at 3:30 PM at Buffalo State.

CLASS C

No. 1 LYONS (21-3) 73
No. 1 CALEDONIA-MUMFORD (22-3) 78

As part of a decisive 11-2 run in overtime, Kolb gave Cal-Mum a lead it did not surrender with a charity toss at the 2:17 mark in the extra stanza. One trip down the floor later, the 5-foot-10-inch forward converted twice more from the line, and the Raiders were on their way to a 78-73 victory over Lyons in the Class C Far West Regional qualifier. Caledonia-Mumford will take on the Section VI champion on Saturday, March 14 at 1:45 PM at Buffalo State.

CLASS D

No. 1 AVOCA (23-1) 56
No. 3 PRATTSBURGH (18-6) 50

Tristian Stark and Jonathan Jensen both had double doubles for Avoca as the Tigers advanced to the Far West Regional. Stark had a team-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jensen added 13 points and 10 boards. Stark scored nine points in the third quarter when Avoca was outscored by Prattsburgh 20-11. Pacey Hopkins added 11 points for the Tigers. Devin Stowe (7) and Thomas Derick (2) rounded out Avoca’s scoring. Mason Putnam kept Prattsburgh in the game, scoring 22 points. Putnam was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. James Crowder scored 12 points for the Vikings. Kris Johnson (6), Sawyer DeVoe (4), Ammon Anderson (4) and Macoy Putnam (2) also scored for Prattsburgh. Avoca will face Sherman (VI) on Saturday, March 14 at noon at Buffalo State.
