Greece Athena alumnus Anthony Lamb was named America East Player of the Year on Friday morning. The Vermont senior becomes a back-to-back winner of the award after achieving the honor for the 2018-19 season, as well.

Lamb concluded the regular season averaging 16.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 40.8 percent from the floor and 81.1 percent from the foul line.

There were a number of standout moments for Lamb during the regular season. He scored 30 points in an upset bid at defending national champions Virginia. Lamb put up 33 points in a win at Albany. He blocked four shots at Cincinnati and again at Lipscomb three games later. And of course there was Lamb’s game-winner at the buzzer at St. John’s.

In his four years at Vermont, Lamb has scored 1,895 points, which ranks fifth in Catamounts history. He will also finish top-10 in Vermont history in made field goals, made free throws, rebounds and blocks.

Three other Vermont players garnered repeat Player of the Year honors in the past: Taylor Coppenrath, Marqus Blakely and Trae Bell-Haynes. Lamb’s head coach, John Becker, earned Coach of the Year and has won it all four years that Lamb has been a Catamount. Vermont also features the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year (Ben Shungu) and Sixth Man of the Year (Ryan Davis).

Vermont takes on eight-seed Maine in the first round of the America East tournament Saturday night. As the top seed, the Catamounts host the entire conference tournament. Most likely, Vermont needs to win the tournament to make the NCAA Tournament via the America East’s automatic bid.
