IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Kidtrell Blocker led four in double figures with 29 points, and the Bishop Kearney Kings defeated Global Concepts (VI), 77-65 in the Bishop Kearney Christmas Showcase played at the Ed Nietopski Gymnasium, Saturday evening.
Blocker scored nine in the third quarter when the Kings stretched a five-point halftime lead to double digits.
The junior guard/forward converted a rebound and putback before knocking down a pull-up jumper. He connected twice from the free throw line and ended the third with a 3-pointer for a 60-47 BK lead.
“In the third quarter, we started picking it up,” Blocker said. “It was my my team. We started sharing the ball. Chemistry was better, and we rebounded.”
After falling behind by as many as eight points in the opening moments of the second quarter, BK rallied to outscore Global Concepts 30-17 in the second stanza.
“Early in the second quarter we started getting a little bit lazy and started turning it over the ball,” Blocker explained.
Miles Monchecourt scored 16 for BK on the night. Freshman Miles Rose added 11. The two along with Blocker are playing together for the first time at Kearney.
Blocker played at Aquinas last season, and Monchecourt started his high school career at McQuaid before transferring.
“This is the third game of the season so we’re still trying to get it together,” Blocker said. “We’ll be there soon.”
Michael Gentile added 11 points for BK. Jamal Williams hit two treys on the night and finished with six points. Deiontray Dixon chipped in with two.
David Stroud paced Global Concepts with 27 points. Stroud opened the fourth quarter on a personal 7-0 run. The senior forward converted two free throws with 4:30 remaining to make it 61-58 game. Global Concepts did not get any closer.
Shawnery Jones scored 19. Raekwon Graves added 10. Andre Goldsmith scored five points.
The win was the third straight for Bishop Kearney (3-1) which will play St. Mary’s on Sunday – day two of the showcase. Jovayne Walters scored 23 points to lead St. Mary’s past UPrep, 80-60 earlier in the day. A noon tip off is scheduled.
