2018 St. Bonaventure graduate Matt Mobley has signed a summer league contract with the Utah Jazz, Mobley said on Sunday.
The 6-3 shooting guard worked out for the Jazz last month, one of the six teams who had him in for pre-draft workouts. His deal is for the summer league only. The league runs July 2-10, with Utah’s first three games in Salt Lake City and then three more games in Las Vegas. The Jazz’s opener is July 2 against San Antonio.
Mobley could potentially play against his former Bonnies backcourt teammate Jaylen Adams, who signed a two-way deal with the Atlanta Hawks. The Jazz and Hawks will meet on July 5 in Salt Lake City.
This past year, Mobley teamed with Adams to give the Bonnies one of the top backcourts in the country. A first team All-Conference selection, Mobley was the sixth-leading scorer in the Atlantic 10 at 18.1 points per game. He had 15 games with 20 points or more including three 30-point games. Mobley set a school record with 105 three-point field goals, shooting 37 percent from behind the arc. The Worcester, Mass., native set an A-10 record with nine three-pointers in the Bonnies’ A-10 Tournament win over Richmond. Mobley also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the season.
Mobley led St. Bonaventure to a 26-8 record, an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament and a second place finish in the Atlantic 10 in 2017-18. The Bonnies’ 26 wins set the school record and their win over UCLA in the First Four was the program’s first NCAA victory since 1970. In addition, the season included a 13-game win streak, which was the longest for the program since 1970.
Mobley also earned All-District honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
