Fresh off an NJCAA DI championship and MVP nod, former Greece Arcadia Titan Keith McGee recently committed to finish his college career at the University of New Mexico.
The 6-foot-2 guard joins a New Mexico Lobos squad which finished 19-15 overall and 12-6 in Mountain West Conference action in 2017-18.
McGee averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 assists for the South Plains Texans this past season. He scored 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting including 3-of-4 behind the arc to earn Most Valuable Player honors as South Plains defeated College of Southern Idaho, 98-95 in the NJCAA Division I championship game. McGee added four assists and two rebounds in the win.
He averaged 18.7 points for Roger Klimek’s 2015-16 Titan squad.
“We all knew what a talented individual he was,” Klimek said. “I am so glad things finally worked out for him.”
McGee earned 2016 Section V Class A1 All-Tournament team as Arcadia advanced to the semifinals where they lost to eventual champion Pittsford Sutherland.
“It was obvious Keith had the athletic ability to compete at the Division I level,” Klimek added. “He just had to get his grades in order. He was a pleasure to coach. He did things on the court that only the special, talented, players can do.”
Sutherland went on to beat Greece Athena and Anthony Lamb – another Section V alum who has gone on to play at the Division I level.
“It was truly a pleasure watching him and Anthony Lamb do battle in the two hard fought games we played with Athena,” Klimek noted. “I think Keith has the ability to have the same success that Anthony has achieved at the college level.”
