Gregorio Petit drove in the go-ahead run and scored the eventual winning run in the 14th inning as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Gwinnett Stripers 7-6 in the first extra-inning contest for both teams under the new rules.

The 14-inning affair is the longest game since Minor League Baseball adopted new rules which puts a runner on second base every half inning starting with the top of the 10th. The teams combined for seven runs in extras after being deadlocked 3-3 through nine.

The Red Wings (1-3) struck first as Taylor Featherston hit an RBI triple and later scored in the 2nd off Stripers (2-4) starter Mike Soroka. Gwinnett answered with a run in the bottom half to make it 2-1. Johan Camargo, on rehab from Atlanta, hit a solo homer off Myles Jaye in the 4th to tie the game.

Gwinnett would chase Jaye from the game as Carlos Franco hit a two-out RBI double in the 6th, giving the Stripers their first lead at 3-2. Matt Magill would strand the runner to end the inning. Jaye was charged with three runs on seven hits including a home run with a strikeout over 5.2 innings.

Rochester still trailed by a run heading to the 9th inning but Willians Astudillo, down to his last strike on a 3-2 pitch, singled in Nick Buss to tie the game.

The teams traded runs in the 10th as both runners who were placed at second base to begin the inning came around to score. After two scoreless innings, each team scored one run apiece again in the 13th.

Stripers position player Jaff Decker (0-1) was on the mound for the 14th and Petit gave the Wings another lead with an RBI single on the first pitch of the inning. He would later score on Jake Cave‘s RBI single giving Rochester a 7-5 advantage. Gwinnett would score a run in the 14th but Tyler Duffey (1-1) would leave the tying run at second base to end the game.

The teams combined to go 10-for-45 with runners in scoring position while leaving 26 men on base. Cave became the first Wing to record more than two hits in a game this season, finishing 4-for-6.
