Scott earns third MAAC Player Of The Week honors

EDISON, N.J. – For the third time this season, Matt Scott has been named MAAC Player of the Week announced on Monday.

Scott scored the game-winning basket to complete a comeback victory at Norfolk State on December 16 in Niagara’s lone game of the week. Scott connected on a 3-pointer, his team-best fourth of the game, with 0.5 seconds remaining to give Niagara an 85-82 win in a game that the Purple Eagles trailed by 18 points in the second half. Scott finished with a game-high 20 points for his ninth straight 20-point game.  He chipped in four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes.

This is the fourth consecutive week a Purple Eagle has been named conference player of the week. Backcourt teammate Kahlil Dukes earned MAAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career on December 11. The duo is the highest scoring combo in the NCAA at 46.4 points per game with Scott currently second in the NCAA with 24.9 points per game. This is Scott’s fifth career MAAC Player of the Week award, including collecting the award on November 27 and December 4.

The Purple Eagles are back in action this week with a home meeting with Cleveland Sate on December 19 at 7 p.m. and a road contest against Cornell onDecember 23 at 1 p.m.
