ROCHESTER, NY – The Minnesota Twins have signed infielder Taylor Featherston, outfielder James Ramsey and catcher Wynston Sawyer to minor league contracts.
Featherston, 28, spent last season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley (PHI) and Triple-A Durham (TB) while appearing in 17 MLB games with Tampa Bay. He batted .237/.316/.370 with 13 doubles, seven homers, 35 RBI and 34 runs scored in 77 minor league games and .179/.277/359 with a double, two home runs, six RBI and six runs scored in 17 games with the Rays. The 2011 5th round pick by Colorado out of Texas Christian was a 2014 Rule 5 selection by Chicago-NL who was traded to Los Angeles-AL.
Ramsey, 27, appeared in just one game with Triple-A Tacoma (SEA) in 2017 and did not have an at-bat due to a suspended game before being released on April 9. He spent 2016 with the Rainiers and Triple-A Oklahoma City (LAD), batting .265/.342/.416 with 18 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 44 RBI and 45 runs scored in 110 games. The 2012 1st round pick (23rd overall) by St. Louis out of Florida State was a 2014 Future Game selection and was originally drafted by Minnesota in the 22nd round in 2011 but returned for his senior season at FSU.
Sawyer, 26, spent 2017 with Double-A Tulsa (LAD) and AZL Dodgers, batting .281/.341/.453 with 16 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 20 RBI and 17 runs scored in 57 games. The 2010 8th round pick by Baltimore out of Scripps Ranch High School (Calif.) was in the Orioles organization for his first seven professional seasons before signing with the Dodgers last season.
Minnesota will announce all minor league signings that receive an invite to spring training at a later date.
