Tribunes sweep three at Legends Classic

BALTIMORE – The MCC men’s basketball team put together an incredible weekend, winning all three games at the Legends Classic hosted by Baltimore City College.

The Tribunes (6-2) started things off with a 77-67 win over second-ranked and previously unbeaten Richard Bland College on Friday. Monroe then defeated host Baltimore City 70-65 on Saturday before dispatching Chesapeake College 99-91 Sunday.

Majesty Brandon was the driving force all weekend The freshman guard finished with 21 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and four steals against Richard Bland. Mike Kelly Jr. chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds, Jaymes Jackson added 12 points and seven boards, and Noah West had 11 points and six rebounds in the win over a team that came in fourth at last year’s national tournament.

Kelly and Brandon led the way in Saturday’s win over Baltimore City. Kelly was 8-of-14 from the floor and finished with 21 points and nine rebounds. Brandon totaled 17 points, five steals and four assists. West, Brien Wilson, and Rob Brown netted eight points apiece.

The Tribunes wrapped up the weekend by putting up a season-high point total against Chesapeake. Brandon kept up his smooth shooting by connecting on seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 31 points. He also dished out seven assists.

West (18 points) and Gilberto Cue (14 points) each hit four 3’s as the Tribunes made a season-high 16 from long distance on the night. Kelly added 12 points and seven rebounds.
