INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky men’s basketball student-athlete Lavone Holland II was named the Horizon League Player of the Week, as announced by the organization in a release this afternoon.
Holland led NKU to the title game of The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase, averaging 16.3 points, 5.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals in the team’s runner-up performance. He was named to The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
Holland shot 14-of-28 from the floor and 9-of-18 from behind the arc, and he also converted 12-of-14 free throws. Northern Kentucky won its opening game versus James Madison thanks to 24 points from Holland.
The team then went 1-1 versus fellow 2017 NCAA participants Iona and Vermont, with Holland scoring 11 points along with five assists versus Iona, and then leading the Norse with 14 points and another five assists in the narrow defeat to Vermont.
Holland was also named the College Sports Madness Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The Norse return to action on Saturday, Nov. 25 with a road game at Memphis. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
