As originally reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rochester native Chris Bostick has been recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bostick will take the roster spot of Josh Harrison who suffered a broken finger when he was hit by a pitch.
Bostick made his major-league debut in May when he joined the Pirates for a three-game series in Los Angeles. He appeared in three games and had a walk in five plate appearances.
As a member of the Indianapolis Indians, Bostick finished the International League season ranked second in hits (143) and third in runs (75). He was hitting .294 with an on-base percentage of .362. Playing all three outfield positions, Bostick had 549 plate appearances in 126 games with Indianapolis.
“I spent a lot of time in the second half of the season playing in the outfield,” Bostick told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Just getting more reps out there, playing a little center, right and left, just very recently the last couple games I came back into the infield. It’s always an adjustment going back and forth doing that stuff. Really just trying to gain as much comfort as I can in all the different spots and being as reliable as possible.”
Bostick earned a spot in the International League All-Star game earlier this season.
Indianapolis is 78-62 and clinched first place in the IL’s West Division. The postseason is set to begin later this week.
A 2011 Aquinas grad, Bostick played on Mark Magliocco’s 2009 state championship team. Oakland selected Bostick in the 2011 MLB Draft out of high school. Bostick played the summer of 2011 in the New York Collegiate Baseball League and was named league Player of the Year. He signed in late July of that year and finished the season with Oakland’s Rookie-level team. He has since played in the Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals organizations before landing in Pittsburgh last fall.
