Gee, Wings shut down IronPigs

Dillon Gee scattered four hits over seven shutout innings, and the Rochester Red Wings moved within four games of the wildcard spot with a 4-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Gee struck out four, walked one and improved to 2-0 on the season. The right-hander threw 101 pitches – 67 for strikes and induced eight ground ball outs while getting four in the air. He did not allow a runner past first base.

ByungHo Park finished 3-for-5 on the night and gave the Wings a lead they did not surrender with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first.

J.B. Shuck led the game with a walk. Two outs later, Matt Hague worked his own base on balls, and Park delivered with his 30th RBI of the season.

Hague made it 2-0 game when he plated Shuck with his 40th RBI of the campaign. Niko Goodrum went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and his 41st RBI of the year.

Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Drew Rucinski work a scoreless inning and two-thirds for his second save of the season.

Rochester improved to 51-40 on the season. The two teams will finish the four-game set Sunday with a 1:35 pm first pitch. Lehigh Valley (56-37) hols the wild card spot. The IronPigs come to Rochester for a three-game series beginning on  August 1st.

The Red Wings open an eight-game homestead on Monday with a doubleheader against Charlotte. A 5:05 pm first pitch of game one is scheduled.
