The Rochester Red Wings opened a nine game road swing in fashion continuing their winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of (4-3/4-2) of thruway rival, the Buffalo Bisons on Monday.
ByungHo Park sparked a three-run fifth in the opener as the Red Wings erased a three-run hole, and David Hurlbut won his second straight decision.
Park doubled to right and later scored the Wings first run of the night. Mitch Garver capped the inning with a two-out, two-run double scoring Niko Goodrum and Engelb Vielma to knot the game at three.
One inning later, Tommy Field roped a one-out double and came round to score the eventual winning run on a two-out double by Goodrum.
Hurlbut improved to 4-3 on the season. The left-hander allowed three runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked four.
Jake Reed tossed an inning and a third of scoreless ball for his first save of the season.
Zack Granite continued his recent torrid hitting with a leadoff single in the night cap. The Wings centerfielder moved to third on one-out base hits from Park and Matt Hague before scoring on a Goodrum sacrifice fly to give Rochester a lead it did not surrender.
Leonardo Reginatto connected on a two-run home run in the third, and Rochester held on for its fourth straight win and 11th out of the last 12.
Aaron Slegers allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings for the win. Slegers struck out four, walked two and improved to 7-4 on the season.
John Curtiss worked a scoreless frame for the hold, and Ryan Pressly left runners on the corners in the final inning for his fourth save of the season.
Granite, leading the IL hitting .365, finished the night 4-of-8 with a double and a run scored. He is hitting .436 over his last 10 games and has reached base safely in 26 straight games.
Goodrum went 2-for-5 on the night with two runs scored and two RBI.
Bengie Gonzalez collected two hits in five at bats with a walk and a run scored.
Rochester improved to 40-34 on the season. The Wings trail Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for second place in the IL North by five games and first place Lehigh Valley by 7.5.
Rochester and Buffalo continue with game three of the five-game set on Tuesday. A 7:05 start at Coca-Cole Field is scheduled.
The Wings finish up the road trip later this week with four games at Lehigh Valley.
