Zack Granite extended his hitting streak to 12. Tim Melville fanned five over 4.2 innings of work, but the Rochester Red Wings fell at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, 9-3.
Granite finished 3-for-5 with a double on the night.
Dustin Fowler paced the RailRiders offense going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre centerfielder tripled home a run in the first as the RailRiders jumped to 4-0 lead after three innings.
Niko Goodrum got Rochester on the scoreboard with a leadoff home run in the sixth. Leonardo Reginatto cut the RailRiders lead in half at 4-2 with with a two-out RBI single later in the frame.
Rochester made it a one-run game in the eighth when John Ryan Murphy reached on an error and eventually scored on Engelb Vielma‘s groundout.
But Scranton/Wilkes Barre exploded for five runs in the eighth when Glyber Torres brought in a pair of runs with a two-out single, and Kyle Higashioka followed with an RBI double.
Melville allowed two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings.
Rochester left 10 men on base and finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
The series continues Wednesday at PNC Field with a 6:35 first pitch.
