Anthony Lamb (Greece Athena) and Quinton Rose (Bishop Kearney) know how to make a good first impression. Lamb garnered University of Vermont Student-Athlete of the Week while Rose was named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Getting his first taste of Philadelphia Big 5 action, Rose responded with 12 points, three rebounds and two blocked shots in Temple University’s 97-92 overtime win against the La Salle Explorers. Rose connected on five of eight field goals including two of four from 3-point range in 26 minutes off the bench. You can see highlights of the game here. The 6-8 guard grabbed seven rebounds to go with five points, one assist, a block and a steal in Temple’s 57-52 loss to New Hampshire Monday night.
Lamb netted 23 in 24 minutes as the Vermont Catamounts defeated Quinnipiac, 94-70 in their season opener. The former Greece Athena Trojan hit eight of a dozen from the floor including one of three behind the arc. He added nine rebounds and a steal to garner Vermont’s TD Bank Student-Athlete of the Week. Monday night, the freshman squared off with fellow Section Five and City Rocks alum Emmitt Holt as Vermont fell to Providence, 80-58. Lamb logged 28 minutes in the loss scoring six points and corralling six rebounds.

Speaking of Holt
The former Webster Schroeder Warrior announced his arrival with authority finishing with a game-high 22 points in his first action as a Providence Friar. The 6-7 junior forward connected on eight of 12 attempts from the floor including one of four from long range. Holt also converted five of six from the free throw line. Thomas Bryant (Bishop Kearney) doubled his fun in No. 12 Indiana University’s 103-99 double-OT win over then-No. 2 Kansas. The 6-10 sophomore hit six of 14 from the floor including two of five from behind the arc on his way to scoring 19 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds. Read the game article here. Phil Valenti (Aquinas) netted 12 and grabbed seven boards in the Canisius Golden Griffins loss to No. 2 Kentucky. Valenti dished two dimes and collected one steal in the 93-69 setback. Read about how Valenti leads Canisius with his instincts here.
Antwoine Anderson (Bishop Kearney) scored 10 points and handed out an assist in Fordham’s season opening loss to Eastern Tennessee State. Anderson handed out five helpers to go with 13 points in Fordham’s 101-75 victory over New York Institute of Technology, Monday night. Read about how Anderson’s patience is paying off here.
Chinonso Obokoh (Bishop Kearney) scored two points and grabbed three rebounds for St. Bonaventure in the Bonnies opening win over St. Francis (Pa). Obokoh swatted one shot. The graduate transfer was seeing his first action for the Bonnies after spending the first three years of his college career at Syracuse University. Dontay Caruthers (East) scored four points and grabbed three rebounds as the University at Buffalo opened its season with a 76-66 win over Niagara last Friday. Monday night, Caruthers collected two assists in 13 minutes as the Bulls fell No. 11 Xavier 86-53. Caruthers started his college career at Midland CC before sitting out last season because of injury at Indian Hills CC.
Deyshonee Much (Gates-Chili) and Iona open their season Tuesday night at Florida State. Much hit 44.7 percent (80-for-179) from the behind the arc in 2015-16 and averaged 13 points per game for the MAAC Champions Gaels.
Also: Kearney’s Nahziah Carter committed to play at University of Dayton next season.
