ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Ryan Lindeman scored in the 15th minute, and the Greece Athena Trojans went on to defeat the Aquinas Li’l Irish, 4-0 in non-league action Wednesday night at Wegmans Stadium.
Lindeman’s goal, his seventh of the season, was the first of three Trojan scores over four minutes. Nick Visca tallied two minutes later, and Dylan Rice made it a 3-0 game in the 19th minute.
The quick start was a point of emphasis for third-year coach Mike Butler and his Trojans.
“The last few games we felt we were the stronger team, but we didn’t have good halves,” Butler explained. “The second half we picked it up and played well, but we started slowly. That was really what we were definitely hoping to get today, and we did. Hopefully, we can get that the rest of the year.”
Athena’s Othman Beleseine scored in the 52nd minute with an assist from Lindeman.
“It was one of those night where everything went the way you hope it would go,” Butler added. “You don’t get too many of those nights so enjoy it.”
Greece Athena improved to 7-0-1. The Trojans travel to take on Canandaigua on Friday in a key Monroe County League match.
Aquinas fell to 1-8-1. The Li’l Irish will host the World of Inquiry next Tuesday.
