NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Saint Joseph’s junior DeAndre’ Bembry has been named the 2015-16 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and senior Isaiah Miles has been named the winner of the Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award, as announced today by the Atlantic 10. The awards were chosen in a voting of the league’s head coaches.

Bembry also earned All-Conference First Team honors for the second year in a row and was named to the All-Defensive Team. Miles was named to the All-Conference Second Team and freshman Lamarr Kimble was chosen to the All-Rookie Team.

Bembry becomes the first Hawk to be named the A-10 Player of the Year since Ahmad Nivins in 2008-09, and is the fifth SJU player to earn the honor. His selection to the All-A-10 First Team marks the 21st time that an SJU player has earned that recognition. He is the sixth Hawk to earn multiple First-Team honors (Tony Costner, Rodney Blake, Bernard Blunt, Jameer Nelson, Ahmad Nivins) and the fifth to do so in consecutive years. Only Nelson was a three-time All-A-10 First Team honoree.

Miles is the third SJU player to win the Most Improved Player Award and the first to do so since Delonte West in 2002-03.

Bembry has made his mark as one of the top all-around players in the nation. He is averaging 17.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while topping the team with 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He is one of just three players in the nation to average over 17 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, and is the only player to do while averaging less than 2.5 turnovers per game.

The 6-6 forward has scored in double figures in all 31 games, with eight double-doubles, and ranks among the A-10’s leaders in seven categories. He led the team or shared the lead in scoring in 12 games, in rebounds in 14 games and in assists 20 times this season. He is also one of 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward Award.

For his career, the junior has recorded close to 1,500 career points and over 600 rebounds.

Miles made one of the most dramatic improvements in Saint Joseph’s history, becoming the Hawks’ leading scorer and rebounder. He is averaging 18.0 points and 8.1 rebounds, up seven points and three rebounds from his junior year. The senior has scored in double figures in all 31 games, with nine double-doubles and 10 games of 20-plus points. Miles has also notched three games of 30-plus points and shattered his previous career highs in points and rebounds.

He entered this year with just 444 career points, but has scored 559 points this season to become the 53rd player in SJU history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.

Kimble has split time at point guard this season, coming off the bench to average 5.9 points, 2.4 assists and just 1.1 turnovers per game. He has scored in double figures in nine games with a high of 13 points in the win over nationally-ranked Dayton. He’s one of the top free-throw shooters on the team, converting 74.5 percent from the line.
