Pittman paces G-Twins to sweep

GENEVA, N.Y. — JT Pittman (Le Moyne) collected four hits and drove in two runs as the Geneva Twins swept the Wellsville Nitros (6-5/8-5) in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Park, Tuesday night.

Pittman singled and scored in a six-run first and added an insurance run with a leadoff home run, his second round tripper of the season, in the sixth inning of the nightcap.

The Ashland, Massachusetts native provided the game-winner with a two-out double in the sixth of game one. He snapped a four-all tie scoring Kenny Reckart (Wooster) and Austin Kearney (Carson-Newman) on the play.

TJ Polito (St. John Fisher) tossed two innings of relief for the win in the opener. James Colgan (Alvernia) picked up the win in game two.

Kyle Monk (Emory) nailed down his eighth and ninth saves of the season retiring all six batters he faced.

Connor Simonetti (Kent State) drilled his league-leading fifth home run of the season in the opener. The right-fielder plated Marty Napleton (St. Joseph’s College) with a one-out shot in the fifth to give the Twins 4-3 edge.

Wellsville tied the score in the sixth before Pittman put the Twins ahead to stay.

Wellsville’s Donny Kilian (University of Buffalo) and Alex Kovacs (Niagara) both connected on round trippers in game two. Kilian went 2-for-4 for with two RBI and two runs scored.

Pittman ended the night a combined 4-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Kearney finished the night with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Reckart collected two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Napleton went 3-for-4 in the opener with two doubles.

Geneva improved to 17-14 with the wins and moved two games ahead of the Genesee Rapids for third place in the NYCBL’s Western Division.

Wellsville fell to 6-26.

The same two teams will meet for a doubleheader in Wellsville on Tuesday.
