ROCHESTER, NY (Tuesday, June 3) – Jeff Manto — the 1994 International League MVP with the Red Wings — will be signing autographs at Frontier Field from 6:00 to 6:50 p.m. prior to the Wings’ Monday, June 30 game against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore).
Manto, who now serves as the Orioles minor league hitting coordinator, will be inducted into the International League Hall-of-Fame later this summer in Buffalo.
During Manto’s MVP season in Rochester, he hit .310 with 27 home runs and 83 RBI after beginning the year with Norfolk (Mets). Over his IL career, Manto hit .275 with 125 homers for seven different clubs from 1992-2000.
His MVP season preceded his best year in the Major Leagues in 1995, when he played in 89 games with the Orioles batting .256 with 17 homers.
The Bristol, Penn. native appeared in 289 games over parts of nine Major League seasons with Cleveland (1990-91, ‘97-99), Philadelphia (1993), Baltimore (1995), Boston (1996), Seattle (1996), Detroit (1998), New York (AL) (1999) and Colorado (2000).
Since retiring, Manto has served in a variety of roles in the game including hitting coach for both the Chicago White Sox (2012-13) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2006-07).
