Signed, sealed, delivered: St. Peter’s 2013-14

Counting down to tipoff and previewing the incoming freshmen of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a look at the St. Peter’s Peacocks.

St. Peter’s won just nine contests (three in the MAAC) during the 2012-13 season. John Dunne welcomes three freshmen to the Jersey City campus: Howard Sellars, Quadir Welton and Trevis Wyche.

Howard Sellars G 6-1, 165 Coatesville, PA/ Coatesville Area

A four-year letterwinner on the Coatesville Area boys’ basketball team… Served as team captain in his final three campaigns… Scored 1,000 points in his high school career…. Averaged 15.0 points per game as a sophomore to earn All-State honors… Named to the All-State team in his junior year after averaging 17.0 points per game… Helped his squad to the district championship as a sophomore and junior and to the state playoffs in his final three seasons.

What they’re saying about Howard Sellars – Allen Rubin/ Hoop Scoop: “He’s a combo guard more of a two guard. He’s good shooter who can put it on the floor. He plays really good defense.”

Quadir Welton C/F 6-7, 220 Philadelphia, PA/ Math, Civics, Science Center

A three-year letterwinner on the Math, Civics and Science Charter School boys’ basketball team… Nominated as an All-American… Helped his team to the state title after a 26-5 season in 2010.

What they’re saying about Quadir Walton –  Jamie Shaw/Phenom Hoop Report: “Welton is a space eater who uses his girth and long arms to rebound. On offense he likes to catch the ball when in motion going toward the basket.”

Steve Keller/ National Recruiting Report: “He committed to them out of his junior year and then really came on and played well and then de-committed. Some higher levels were interested in him. He’s good. He could be one of the better players in the league.”

Allen Rubin/ Hoop Scoop: “He’s good from about 12 feet and in with good post moves inside. He’s a very good rebounder. A good power forward. He’s decent shot blocker.”

Trevis Wyche G 6-0, 165 Neptune, NJ/ St. Peter’s Prep

A three-year letterwinner on the Saint Peter’s Prep boys’ basketball team… Served as team captain in his final two seasons… Named the Player of the Year in the Red Hudson Division in 2013… Averaged 17.8 points, 6.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in high school… Helped his team to a 24-6 record in the Parochial A North Division in his senior year.

What they’re saying about Trevis Wyche: Jon Boon/Bishop Kearney:  “He’s a real quick and athletic. Not sure he shoots it great, but he can get to the basket. Defensively, he’s tough because of his athleticism. He handles it really well. He ran the show well for them. As a sophomore, they will get a lot out of him.”

Steve Keller/ National Recruiting Report: “He continuously improved throughout his high school career.”

Jay Gomes/ NJ Hoops: “He had a very good senior year – came on a little bit. He sat out part of his junior year after transferring from powerhouse St. Patrick’s. He’s very quick, gets to the rim. He really pushes the ball in transition. He’s a very confident kid. He was one of the surprises in the state last year.  Puts points on the board and can also handle well enough to be the point, scoring point and scoring combo.”
