SHERRILL, N.Y.- With the season hanging in the balance, the offense of the Sherrill Silversmiths exploded in an 18-11 win against the Geneva Red Wings in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Noyes Park, Wednesday evening.
The stakes were high coming in—Geneva was only a game back in the standings—and the hitters came through. Mike Mazzara led the way with four hits and three runs. Hayden Hibberd had two hits and three walks, and Byron Campbell had five RBI for the Smitties. Wes Van Boom and Mike Weakley each added a home run late in the game as well.
Sherrill Starter Tom Dybas went 4 and two-thirds innings for the win, improving to 2-0 on the year.
Jesse Puscheck had three hits and five RBI, including a three-run home run for Geneva. Cameron Stimpson tallied two doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Robbie Enslen also added a three-run homer for the Red Wings.
Geneva starter John Scott picks up the loss for Geneva, he was making just his first start in nine appearances all year.
With the win Sherrill keeps possession of fourth place in the NYCBL Eastern Division. They welcome the Adirondack Trail Blazers Thursday night at 5 p.m. Nate Eastman (Mohawk Valley CC) gets the ball for the Smitties. Charles Parsons (Mohawk Valley CC) takes the hill for Adirondack.
The Red Wings travel to Syracuse to take on the Salt Cats at LeMoyne College. First pitch is also scheduled for 5 p.m.
Geneva’s loss keeps them in sole possession of last place in the division. They are 2 games out of 4th—the last spot into the playoffs. The Redwings now travel to Syracuse tomorrow for a crucial game against the Syracuse Salt Cats.
