WEBSTER, N.Y. –The Hornell Dodgers got solid pitching from Steven Dooley (Webster) and timely hitting in a 6-2 victory over the Lake Ontario Ridgemen (AIA) on Friday evening. The Dodgers are now 19-7 on the year and have a four game lead in the Western Division standings.
The Ridgemen got on the board in the 1st inning on an RBI groundout by Joel Belk but the Dodgers tied it up in the third inning when Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) hit an RBI double.
Hornell took the lead for good in the 4th when Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) and Jake Kenney (Hagerstown CC) collected back-to-back RBI singles to make it 3-1. Matt Calhoun (Harding) made it 4-1 in the fifth when he plated a run on a groundout.
Trevor Keele hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 4-2 but the Blue & White added two insurance runs in the 9th. The Dodgers scored on a misplayed ball in right field hit by Kyle Danford (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) and an RBI single by Calhoun.
Dooley went seven strong innings allowing five hits and two runs while walking four and striking out six. Jake Brandenberger (Flagler) struck out three in the 8th and Johnson closed out the game striking out two in the ninth.
Johnson was two-for-four with two doubles was Danford was two-for-five.
Keele was the lone Ridgemen with multiple hits finishing two-for-three.
The Dodgers have Saturday off but will host a doubleheader with the Geneva Twins on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Maple City Park.
