With October comes the official start of the college basketball season as teams begin practices. Follow along as Pickin’ Splinters highlights the incoming classes of the MAAC that are “signed, sealed and delivered.”
Leading it off with the Siena Saints.
After three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, the Siena Saints finished 13-18 last season losing to Iona in the MAAC quarter-finals. Ryan Rossiter and Clarence Jackson graduated. Mitch Buonaguro and his staff welcome four recruits eligible for this season.
DaVonte Beard 6’2″ 181lbs. G. St. Vincent-St. Mary – Akron, Ohio
What they’re saying about Beard – Rodger Bohn Slam Online: “In terms of cats who keep getting better, Beard is one of those guys who always seems to surprise me each time I see him. He’s got great size and athleticism for a point and has recently gotten his jumper right, which makes him a pretty tough guard.”
Evan Hymes 5’8″ 147lbs. G. Kestrel Heights Charter – Durham, North Carolina
The Clifton Park, N.Y. transplant averaged 14 points, five assists and two steals his senior season. After growing up in the Capitol Region, Hymes moved with his family to Long Island and eventually North Carolina.
Marcus Hopper 6′ 7″ 233lbs. F Holy Cross – Queens, N.Y.
Hopper shot 48.4 percent from the floor including 45.2 percent behind the arc to average 10.5 points with 8.5 rebounds during his senior season.

Rob Poole 6’5″ 176 lbs. G PaulIV – Haddonfield New Jersey
What they’re saying about Poole – Allen Rubin Hoop Scoop: “He’s a two-guard. Very good outside shooter. He can get to the basket. He can stop and pop. Good defender.”
