Casual Friday (Peerless Prognosticators Pool)

By Wally

A veeeeeeeerrrrrrrry casual Friday indeed.   Last day of work before a two week break …. yaaaaaaaaahooooooooooo! Okay … sorry … a little premature excitement at the prospect of not having to be in the “oriface” for several days.   Like the players above, I’m feeling a little combative and restless today … I’m ready for the bowl games to start THIS WEEKEND … and so they shall.   But because the vast majority of these games are essentially meaningless, we’re going to give them “meaning”.    Gosh darn it, they’re gonna count!   How’s that, you say?    It’s easy.    All you have to do is participate in the PPP … that’s the PEERLESS PROGNOSTICATORS POOL !!!

Here’s how it works:    I list all the bowl games in essentially chronological order (below) and you simply respond by picking a winner for each one.   I’ll keep track of it all during the bowl season, will send out periodic mid-term standings, and when it’s all over, I’ll declare the winners of the gold, silver and bronze helmet stickers.     Here’s what the gold sticker will look like:

Hey … a Notre Dame helmet … imagine that!   There is one catch to make it a bit more interesting.   Each game will be given a point value.  Aha … that’s right … all bowl games are not created equal.   Just like their payouts!    Let’s suffice it to say that generally the later the game is played, the more it’s worth.  I will indicate next to each game the points at stake.   Okay … here we go:

So there you have it … all the bowl games mean something now!    Bragging rights on Pickin Splinters are at stake!     Okay … just reply below with all your picks before the games start Saturday.   If you respond later than that, you can still play, but you will forfeit any games that have already been played.   Not a big problem since the early games are only worth a point or two.  But don’t delay … get those PPP picks in now!

HAPPY WEEKEND & SEASON’S GREETINGS TO ALL!

We now have 15 contestants in the PPP !!! Obviously, EVERYONE is still in the running since points per game is low here at the start. Mark and Wannabe are the current leaders with 4 pts each. Here are the point totals after 4 bowl games (pre-Boise State vs Utah Dec 22) . Btw … Everyone picked Boise tonight, EXCEPT Pete Jr. So what inside scoop does he have ????

    Point totals:

    1 Dan 2
    2 Rey 3
    3 Pete 2
    4 Bill 0
    5 Chas 1
    6 Mark (Pete) 4
    7 Wally 2
    8 Smitty 3
    9 Wannabe 4
    10 Casey 2
    11 AC (Pete) 3
    12 Pete Jr 1
    13 Crash 3
    14 Joe 0
    15 ND Dad 0

Pete Jr just favors ND’s opponents. And Bill IS maintaining shutout status, thereby beginning to seriously challenge Wally’s guarantee!

  9. Wally   December 22, 2010 at 11:40 pm

Boise wins as expected and Bill is indeed on the board.

Brent Musberger is a putz. He stated: “Kellen Moore is gonna be a real good back up QB in the NFL.” No, Brent, he’s gonna be a starter in the NFL and make All-Pro a few times. The kid’s only a junior and he’s Matt Leinart with a brain and a great attitude. He’s sees the field better than 95% of all college QB’s. They should put Brent out to pasture … the Tim McCarver of College football.

  10. Crossword Pete   December 23, 2010 at 12:10 am

They should have put Musberger out to pasture long ago!
