Tuesdays with Smitty: Baseball Hall of Fame and other Rumblings

May 13, 2008 by Smitty 21 Comments

Welcome to Tuesdays with Smitty - the late edition. Recently Casey posted an article talking about Greg Maddux and his pursuit of 350 wins. Recent research led me to appreciate just how significant getting to the 350 win marker really is. Outside of Roger Clemens, whose accomplishments have dimmed given recent events - the last pitcher to reach the 350+ plateau was Warren Spahn … [Read more...] about Tuesdays with Smitty: Baseball Hall of Fame and other Rumblings

On the brink of milestones

May 10, 2008 by Paul Gotham 3 Comments

When the San Diego Padres host the Colorado Rockies today, Greg Maddux will take the hill for the home nine. The 42-year-old right-hander will be looking for career win 350. Secretariat’s record-breaking runs in’73 and Affirmed fighting off Alydar to win the Triple Crown in ’78 made for great entertainment. I even, with Monty’s suggestion, read Sea … [Read more...] about The Horses Are Out Of The Barn

Tuesdays with Smitty: Draft Weekend Thoughts and other Rumblings

April 29, 2008 by Smitty 14 Comments

After trying to absorb as much of the NFL Draft this weekend, I came away with thoughts about teams, as well as some of the other action occurring in sports over the weekend. → The draft really needs to go back to being in the morning and not the 3:00 pm start that it had this year. It is WAAAAAY too much time for Keyshawn, Steve Young and company to try and figure out who … [Read more...] about Tuesdays with Smitty: Draft Weekend Thoughts and other Rumblings
