Hoover led the No. 22-ranked Flyers in scoring this week with 20.7 ppg. The Flyers went 3-0 this week, with road wins at Saint Louis (90-74) on Feb. 17 and at La Salle (84-69) on Feb. 19, and a home win vs. Saint Joseph’s (82-56) on Feb. 23. Hoover started the week with a career-high 29 points vs. Saint Louis. With UD down after the first half, Hoover scored 20 of her career-high 29 points in the second half, including a four-point play with 4:24 to play in the second half that gave UD a 78-61 lead. Hoover also had a game-high seven assists and six rebounds.
Junior Andrea Hoover scored a career-high 29 points as No. 25 University of Dayton women’s basketball rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Saint Louis 90-74. The Flyers improve to 18-5 overall and 11-1 in the Atlantic 10 to remain alone atop the conference standings. The Billikens drop to 10-15 overall and 5-7 in A-10 action.
A senior guard from Drexel Hill, Pa., Shields averaged 25.5 points per game and shot 55.6 percent overall (15-of-27) and 61.1 percent from three-point range (11-of-18) in leading the Hawks to a 2-0 week. At home Wednesday versus La Salle, Shields tallied a game-high 22 points and added three rebounds and an assist.
St. Bonaventure’s Hannah Little has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Celeste Edwards of Dayton repeated as the league’s Rookie of the Week.
Edwards also had a career-high five steals, including a game-deciding steal with 10 seconds left in regulation that allowed UD to hold onto a 72-69 lead. She was fouled and hit one free throw for the final score, 73-69. In addition, she had a team-high five assists.
George Washington’s Jonquel Jones has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Celeste Edwards of Dayton and Hannah Missry of Fordham were tabbed as Co-Rookies of the Week for their performances in games played between Jan. 27 – Feb. 2.
La Salle’s Alicia Cropper and Saint Joseph’s Natasha Cloud have been named Co-Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Players of the Week, while Richmond’s Olivia Healy has been tabbed as the Rookie of the Week for games played Jan. 20-26.
The University of Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team won its Atlantic 10 home opener with a 73-59 victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies Saturday afternoon at UD Arena. The Flyers improved their record to 9-4 and 2-0 in the A-10 while SBU dropped to 12-6 and 1-2 in A-10 play.
