Performance Of The Week 7/20-7/26

July 27, 2009 by Paul Gotham 6 Comments

It's not every day that perfection pays a visit to the sports world. Before Thursday, only seventeen pitchers, in the history of Major League Baseball, retired all 27 batters faced  in a game. Mark Buehrle made it 18. In so doing, the southpaw rubs elbows with some elite company. Buehrle held Tampa Bay without any baserunners while striking out six.  The native of St. … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 7/20-7/26

Performance Of The Week 7/13 – 7/19

Another week and several great performances with which to choose. I am picking Stewart Cink and Tom Watson. With the sport's biggest attraction not making the cut, something special had to make people spend their Sunday watching British Open. Cink and Watson made it possible. Sanchez's no-hitter was the first no-no by a Giant since John 'The Count' … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 7/6-7/12

Roger Federer AND Andy Roddick earn my POTW. Federer, for his part in making breakfast at Wimbledon ...brunch with Wimbledon. Roddick, for pushing Federer as far as he could. One year after coming up short against Rafael Nadal, Federer particpated in yet another epic finals match. Last year's match set a record for overall duration. This year's match set a record for … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 6/29 – 7/5

Performance Of The Week 6/22 – 6/28

Some have called it the 'Miracle on Grass.' I'm not sure I want to go that far, but the Unites State Men's soccer team 2-0 victory over Spain  gets my POTW. Hopefully, taking down the world's number one team in convincing fashion will lead to big things for the 2010 World Cup. As of right now, we can bask in the glow of the US team advancing to a FIFA final for the first time … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 6/22 – 6/28
