Tuesdays with Smitty: Odds and Ends

Well we are more then a week away from the British Open and it has been an interesting weekend of discussion surrounding one position on the baseball field. So I thought I would keep it light and just comment on a few interesting topics that have happened throughout sports in the past week. Here we go:

Performance Of The Week 6/29 – 7/5

One year after coming up short against Rafael Nadal, Federer particpated in yet another epic finals match. Last year’s match set a record for overall duration. This year’s match set a record for most games played in the final set – 30. Yeah, that’s right 30. It started at breakfast and ended after 1pm.

Just as the golf world is starting to recover from its Bethpage “hangover”, the LPGA begins its week here in Rochester, NY. Featuring 144 women golfers, the Wegmans LPGA celebrates its 33rd year at the Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY. Known as one of the favorite stops for most of the members in the LPGA, Rochester has seen Hall of Famers such as Patty Sheehan, Nancy Lopez, Kathy Whitworth and future Hall of Famers such Lorena Ochoa and Karrie Webb win multiple championships as the Wegman LPGA.
