The Rochester Red Wings (42-29 in the second half, 87-57 overall) bounced back from a 9-8 loss on Tuesday to earn an important win, 12-4, over the Buffalo Bisons (32-36 in the second half, 67-76 overall) on Wednesday that kept them in playoff position.
The win in Buffalo keeps the Red Wings tied with the Indianapolis Indians for the lone second-half playoff spot in the International League, but the Red Wings hold the tie-breaker. Rochester’s “Magic Number” with four games left is now four – any combination of Red Wings wins and/or Indians losses would ensure Rochester’s first trip to the postseason since 2013.
Down 3-0 going into the fourth inning, the Red Wings outscored Buffalo 12-1 the rest of the way en route to the victory, at first briefly tying it in the fourth behind RBI singles from Trey Lipscomb and Cayden Wallace as well as a Lipscomb score on a Leandro Pineda groundout and then leaping ahead for good in a three-run fifth that saw back-to-back home runs by Cortland Lawson and Seaver King and later an RBI single from Riley Adams.

Rochester continued to pour it on in the innings that followed, adding another two in the sixth, a three-spot in the seventh, and a lone run in the ninth. Wallace led the team with three RBI as part of a 2-for-5 night, while Lawson not only hit his first AAA home run but also recorded a triple as part of a 3-for-4, 2 RBI game that also saw him draw a walk.
Joe Glassey earned his first AAA win in relief, going 1.1 hitless innings while striking out two.
The two teams continue their series with a day game on Thursday. Isaac Lyon is expected to start for Rochester against Buffalo’s Richard Gallardo. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
