The Rochester Red Wings beat the Buffalo Bisons, 5-2, on Thursday, taking the road victory in 10 innings thanks to a three-run top of the tenth.
After the score remained tied 2-2 since the bottom of the fifth, the Red Wings (13-11 in the first half, 58-39 overall) opened the tenth with Phillip Glasser at second as the “ghost runner.” Christian Franklin moved him to third on a sacrifice bunt, and then Abimelec Ortiz brought him home on a sacrifice fly to give the Wings a 3-2 lead. Brady House and Andrew Pinckney each drew a walk against Brendan Cellucci. Trey Lipscomb then jumped on the first pitch he saw, sending the ball to right. Buffalo right-fielder Ismael Munguia tripped trying to the fly ball, allowing it to fall safely while Lipscomb moved to second with a two-run double. Gus Varland then pitched a scoreless bottom half to ensure the victory.
The win is Rochester’s fifth in the six games since the All-Star break – their lone loss came on Wednesday to Buffalo, 9-2.

Although the Red Wings fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the third when Buffalo’s Josh Kasevich scampered home on a Jackson Kent wild pitch, the Wings jumped ahead in the top of the fifth, when Glasser singled and Franklin walked before House brought both of them home with a triple to center to make it 2-1.
The Bisons (12-12 in the first half, 47-52 overall) tied it up in the bottom half, however, on a bases-loaded walk by Luke Young. That 2-2 score would hold until extras and the game-winning tenth for the Wings.
Varland earned the win in relief to move to 2-1 on the AAA season, going two innings with two strikeouts, no hits, and a walk. House, Lipscomb, and Cayden Wallace all had two-hit nights. Lipscomb also stole a base.
The Red Wings will continue their series in Buffalo on Friday, when Chandler Champlain takes the mound against fellow right-hander Grant Rogers at 6:35 p.m.
