Center-fielder Andrew Pinckney opened scoring, hitting a 2-run home run, his 11th, as part of 2-for-3, 2 RBI night to open the scoring in the top of the fourth and making several good defensive plays in the outfield to rob Charlotte of runs. The Alabaman also drew a walk.
After Pinckney gave the Wings the early 2-0 lead, Rochester extended it in the fifth, as Abimelec Ortiz and Brady House hit back-to-back RBI doubles to make the score 4-0. Ortiz later brought home two more runs with a single in the seventh, part of a 3-for-5, three RBI night for the 24-year-old.
The Knights attempted a comeback, scoring a run each in the fifth and eighth, but a bases-loaded lineout by Nolan Jones ended their biggest threat to the Rochester lead.
In a “bullpen day”, the Red Wings opened with Zach Penrod, who went three innings of one-hit ball, striking out two and walking one. A succession of five pitchers followed, with Andre Granillo going two innings before Trevor Gott, Robert Cranz (who was awarded his first AAA win), Jack Sinclair, and Eddy Yean went an inning each.
The Wings, now 2-2 on the second half of the season and 47-30 overall, continue their series with Charlotte at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday.
