A five-run second inning was all the Rochester Red Wings needed on Wednesday as they beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 5-3, in Allentown.

The win ensured the Red Wings remained in the top spot in the International League’s first-half standings, a half-game up on their nearest competitor.

All five runs of the rally came with two outs against Lehigh lefty Tucker Davidson, who allowed eight straight batters to reach, including a two-run single by Tres Barrera, an RBI single from Phillip Glasser, an RBI double from Seaver King, and finally a Yohandy Morales single to give the Wings the early 5-0 lead.

Red Wings starter Chandler Champlain allowed four hits and a walk over five innings of work, striking out seven. The IronPigs put up three runs on the righty – one in the bottom of the second and a two-run shot from Felix Reyes in the fifth.

Once Champlain left the game, the Red Wings bullpen took over, as Andre Granillo, PJ Poulin, Seth Shuman, and Eddy Yean combined for four scoreless innings while allowing one hit as the Wings held on for their second straight victory.

Champlain earned the win to move to 5-1, while Yean was credited with his ninth save of the season. Andrew Pinckney led Rochester in hits, going 3-for-4, and also stole a base.

Elsewhere in the International League, Memphis defeated Louisville, 16-3, to remain a half-game back of the Red Wings. The Nashville Sounds fell 3-2 to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to fall to 1.5 games behind the Red Wings.

The two squads continue their six-game set on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. in Allentown. Rochester expects to send out left-hander Jackson Kent against an IronPigs pitcher who has yet to be announced.
