Nearly 30 days had passed since Monroe Community College Baseball ventured out on the road.
The Tribunes took well to the change of scenery on Thursday.
Jayden Pavao (Hamilton, ON/Bishop Tonnos Catholic) registered his first career win, and Thomas Woodridge (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) produced seven runs as MCC (16-6) swept a doubleheader (20-2/14-9) from host Mohawk Valley Community College (3-10).
Pavao (1-0) struck out seven over a career-high four innings to pick up the Game 1 win. The right-hander allowed two runs on two hits and two walks.
Woodridge finished 2-for-2 in the opener with a double, three walks as part of an offense that scored 11 runs in the third inning before tacking on two more in the fourth and six in the fifth. The freshman third baseman scored three times.
Aaron Reina (Rochester, N.Y/Churchville-Chili) also crossed home three times as part of a 2-2 effort at the plate with a double and three base on balls.
Stefano Peloso (Ottawa, ON/St. Pius X) tripled, drew a pair of walks, drove in three runs and scored three times. Josh Skuce (Toronto, ON/Michael Power of St. Joseph’s) doubled, drove in a run and scored three times.
Jack Duggan (Georgetown, ON/Georgetown District) connected on a solo home run. Miguel Matos (Rochester, N.Y./East High) was 1-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Aidan Gallagher (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill) walked, drove in a run and also finished 1-2 with a double.
Tyler Cannon (Webster N.Y./Webster Schroeder) went 2-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. Zane Barron (Ormond Beach, FL/Seabreeze) walked and scored. Lucas Karelus (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) walked twice and scoring twice. Braedon Reina (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) singled, drove in a run and scored.
Bronx Buchholz (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) struck out one and retired all three batters he faced in a scoreless inning of relief work.
Woodridge singled, drew three walks, drove in a run and crossed home three times in the nightcap. Duggan homered, walked once, and scored twice in the win.
Aaron Reina was 1-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Both Gallagher and Michael Sardou (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) doubled and scored.
Andrew Macre (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph’s Collegiate) was 2-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Tanner Holmes (Allenford, ON/Owen Sound District) went 3-4 with three RBI.
Ben Buxton (Marysville, ON/St. Theresa Catholic Secondary) and Josh Skuce (Toronto, ON/Michael Power-St. Joseph’s) both went 1-3. Skuce had one RBI. Buxton drove in two.
Luke Lance (Toronto, ON/Birchmount) worked 2 1/3 innings in relief to pick up the win. The freshman southpaw struck out four. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks.
Jaden Sherwood (Batavia, N.Y./Notre Dame-Batavia) struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.
The Tribunes did not commit an error in either game of the doubleheader running their streak to 43 innings without a fielding miscue.
Starting on March 19th when MCC hosted Onondaga CC, the Tribunes played six straight twinbills at the friendly confines. Prior to Thursday, the Monroe nine last road matchup came on March 10th at Gateway Community College in Arizona.
