Sophomore Wrianna Hudson delivered the game winner in the 73rd minute as the third-seeded Florida State Seminoles knocked off No. 2-seed TCU, 1-0 in the College Cup National Semifinal, Friday at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
The former Greece Athena standout one-timed a cross from teammate Sophia Nguyen for her team-leading 14th goal of the season.
“It was amazing,” Hudson said postgame. “I just really want to keep playing with all these girls, all the seniors. Being able to do that for them was great.”
Peyton McGovern started the play in the middle third where she led Nguyen along the right sideline. With a defender on her, Nguyen served a ball into the 18-yard box that Hudson, running back post, took out of the air with her left foot and one-timed into the back of the net.
“You can always count on Wri to score,” said teammate Yuna McCormack. “There’s no question. As soon as that went in, I was so happy, so excited. Wri really pulled through and we’re really excited.”
The goal was Hudson’s third of the postseason and fourth game winner of her college career.
The Seminoles will play Stanford, which beat Duke by an identical 1-0 score, in the National Championship, Monday night. A 7 p.m. kickoff is scheduled.
